So this last weekend I had the honor of attending a long-time running, famous game convention I've never quite managed to put a pin in before: GEN CON! THANK YOU guys for nagging me to attend. It was, in a word, phenomenal.
I did not get an opportunity to walk around like I would have liked--not that I didn't walk around at all, just that it wasn't very much of the showroom floor--but what I did get to see (and those games I did get to interact with) were AWESOME. Not only that, but, share with me if you have not found this to be the case, but hot damn are the people nice at gen con! I mean, not that the other conventions are chock full of assholes or something (they are not), but there was a particular vibe of honesty, community, and friendliness that must just come out when you're surrounded by thousands and thousands of board games.
And I get you. I had to dive into some myself! I picked up some event special foil cards from Sentinels of the Multiverse (if you're not familiar with this game, it's AMAZING--you play as a hero with (or without) fellow heroes against different level villians and different challenging environments.) My alttempt to not spend money was unsuccessful.
I also picked up some second edition and special Dominion packs (because, you know, it's Dominion). XD I also, finally, got my hands on Alchemy for less than the cost of my soul. (Which turns out to be about 40 bucks.)
Another special thing about this con was that I got to spend the first two days with my best friend, Hannah. She kept me company and really made the event extra special!
I spent most of the con days at the Steps of Power booth, meeting new fantasy lovers and chatting with old fans. There were too many awesome people to name here, but every single one of you really made my day--especially those of you who stopped by a second time to talk about cats or the book! Thank you!
I got the opportunity to meet some long-time fans (and dnd players) from Distractions, so that was really awesome. If you're looking to dive into an exciting and well-done dnd podcast, totally check them out. Not only are they good at what they do, they're also great guys.
My one outing this round was to party with the fellow authors. We had dinner at the Ram Brewery (which was decorated for Gen Con) and then headed over to the Rock Bottom Brewery for further entertainment with the men and women from Gen Con's Writer's Symposium. (Despite our typical introverted nature, we writers know how to party).
