June GoM Update

Hey Powerlings!

I am (er, obviously…) not a fan of social media and so I put this off for too long with my own expectations of making a long, entertaining update post when really I need to be fine with something sloppy. Including me not rereading this post, so I apologize in advance. XD
Alas~
But I just wanted to make a quick little post that: Yes, Gods or Men is still being written. Due to life (rescuing 150 cats, COVID, house remodeling, life~) it has definitely taken much longer to really get underway than I would have ever imagined. I’m sorry about that! The fourth book is also extremely well outlined and occasionally reviewed during my work to make sure I can flow straight from Gods or Men into Princes or Paupers–I really want to have the fourth book out within a year of Gods or Men: which I hope to have published either winter of this or spring of next.
But anyways, on to more about Gods or Men: it’s going extremely well. I am about 1/3 completely done with it, 2/3 drafted. I’m currently writing Eldaeus first point-of-view chapter, which is an exciting challenge. To do him justice, it’s taken me a month of working through all of his nuances and background, etc… to really make sure that (if this is the only PoV chapter he ever gets), it does him right! It’s that sort of attention to detail that can sometimes slow me down a bit. I had to review over 14,000 words of JUST his luck / superstition information! In perspective, that’s 1/4th the length of typical YA novel. For one character. For one chapter. It’s this attention to detail that I know you (and I) love–buuuut sometimes that also bites me in the ass XD
While 1/3 of the novel is finished, I mean everything but the FINAL polish phase (this is where I go in and fine tune some of the best little flavor details). This kind of finishing up to this point means that I’ve written and edited the first 1/3 about 7 (intense) times. It’s current length is about 100,000 words. I expect the novel to be around 250,000-300,000 words (or about 650-750 pages). (Heroes or Thieves was about 185,000 words).
The book is broken into 2 parts mentally for me (within the same novel–not two separate novels)– the first part has 45 chapters. I am finished with 30 of them (well, technically 29 since Eldaeus PoV chapter is #30 and I’m on his final edit today). The next part is about 20 chapters, excluding, I believe, two epilogue chapters.

Although it is early to predict word count, I expect that Princes or Paupers will be around the length of Heroes or Thieves (based on the outline that I have).

And there you have it!
You are always welcome to message me on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, as well as on the blog here, or email me. I can’t promise quick replies, but I am always happy to answer anything you might want to ask.

Have a marvelous weekend!
Love,
JJ

  1. Exciting news! I was just recently thinking about this series and wanted to check and see if things are well/if the third book was out yet. Totally understand the setbacks! Take your time and it sounds like it’s going to be well worth the wait!!

    Best wishes!
